IIB Department volunteers with Keep Durham Beautiful

In service to the Durham community, a group from the Integrative Immunobiology department went to Whippoorwill Park Saturday morning. Organized by Miranda Lumbreras, the team included postdoc Ching Wen Chen, grad students Maurice Bukenya, Courtney Covolo, Melissa Harnois and faculty members Saskia Hemmers and Raphael H. Valdivia. The event was in conjunction with local organization Keep Durham Beautiful.

IIB team cleans up on service day

The impact of these service outings extends beyond the physical cleanup. They strengthen community bonds, foster a sense of togetherness, and raise awareness about environmental issues. The shared experience of working side by side and witnessing the positive results leaves participants with a lasting sense of pride and accomplishment. It's a reminder that collective action can make a difference in the community around us, one park at a time.
