Houda joined the Department of Immunology in October of 2022. She has a strong background in human resources, payroll, and benefits. She is always eager to work with the immunology graduate students to facilitate their PhD path.


Job Duties

Houda serves multiple roles as an Administrative Coordinator and Assistant to the Director of Graduate Studies for the Immunology graduate program directed by Dr. Mari Shinohara (DGS). Her position reports to the Chairman, Dr. Raphael Valdivia and to the DGS. 

  • Plans, administers, and facilitates graduate student recruitment each year.
  • Serves as the department liaison with the Graduate School and other programs at Duke to coordinate program business and to accomplish program objectives.
  • Coordinates and implements the annual Bernard Amos Research Awards Lecture and Reception in May, the annual department retreat, and the holiday party in December.
  • Responsible for the financial oversight and management of the Graduate Program.
  • Tracks and maintains student records and information including student progression through the program, annual committee meetings, committee members, grades, credit hours, and graduation.
