Bryan Jian Wei Lim earns PhD in Immunology

Congratulations to Bryan Jian Wei Lim, PhD, who on March 17, 2025, successfully defended his dissertation, “Heterogeneity of Tumor-Infiltrating CD8+ T Cells: Implications for Systemic Immunity and Therapy.”

After graduation, Lim plans to continue his training as a scientist or postdoctoral fellow, further building on the foundation and skills he developed in graduate school. In the long run, he hopes to dedicate his research career to studying the intersection of immunology, synthetic biology, and computational biology, focusing on developing novel therapeutic agents to address critical questions in cancer immunology.

He said he is grateful for the many lessons he learned during his time in the PhD program, particularly the valuable lesson of learning how to turn failures it into an opportunity for growth.

“There were so many moments when experiments didn’t work or ideas didn’t pan out, but those challenges taught me to adapt, rethink my approach, and keep pushing forward. The supportive environment of the program allowed these so-called failures' to become valuable learning experiences that shaped me as a scientist,” Lim said. “The resilience and flexibility I developed during this time are lessons I know will stay with me, both in my career and in life overall.”
