Looking forward to recruiting the IIB class of 2025: A PhD Program with Community

We are preparing to interview and recruit graduate students for the coming academic year!

Last year, we enrolled a fantastic cohort of students. One of our students, Gabriella Torres, was recently featured in the Duke Cancer Institute’s magazine, Breakthroughs. Read more about Torres and her drive to understand cancer and immunology.

After participating in a Duke University School of Medicine program that gave her a one-year research experience in the lab of Stacy Horner, PhD, associate professor of integrative immunobiology, Torres was accepted to seven graduate schools.

She chose to enroll in the PhD in immunology program in the Duke Department of Integrative Immunobiology because of the supportive community she found there. “The immunology program is on the smaller side, and that makes it feel more welcoming,” Torres said. “I like being able to walk down Research Drive and wave to people and ask how their day is going.”

The Immunology Graduate Training Program matriculates on average 6 students per year.

Among PhD graduates from 2014-2020:

  • 75% are currently involved in basic science research
  • 11% are in advanced medical training
  • 14% are in positions such as consulting, marketing, and science writing.

Thirty-three percent of our 2004-2013 graduates currently hold faculty positions.
