PhD Candidate Maurice Bukenya Elected as Non-clinical SoM GPSG Senator

PhD candidate Maurice Bukenya in Georgia Tomaras' Lab was recently named one of two non-clinical senators for The Graduate and Professional Student Government of Duke University (GPSG).

GPSG is the umbrella student government organization for Duke’s nine graduate and professional schools. Every graduate and professional student is automatically a member of the GPSG. The group serves as a liaison to the Duke administration and hosts a variety of social networking events open to all graduate and professional students.

Of his new appointment, Maurice says,

"I’m excited and deeply honored to serve in the senate as a representative of the non-clinical School of Medicine graduate school. As senator, my focus will be on advancing resolutions that directly enhance the quality of lives of students within our school, ranging from improving students’ working conditions and academic/professional development resources to diversity and inclusion as well as international students’ affairs.

Working with the GPSG and non-clinical SoM council, I also aim to expand avenues for academic and social collaboration across the many departments in our school. I pledge to be a listener and I’ll keep communication lines open for you to share any concerns and challenges you face as students."

Maurice can be reached via his Duke email. Please join us in congratulating Maurice!
