Congratulations to Estefany Y. Reyes, PhD, who on March 25, 2025, successfully defended her dissertation, “Host cell responses in the brain during cryptococcal meningoencephalitis.” After graduation she will remain in the lab of Mari L. Shinohara, PhD, professor of integrative immunobiology, to follow up on some exciting projects that emerged from her graduate student research, she said. Long term, she aims to lead an independent research group investigating immune mechanisms in the brain that influence immune responses to infectious agents and autoimmunity.

The National Institutes of Health's proposal to cap reimbursement of facilities and administrative (F&A) costs on research grants at 15% would significantly slow or cease scientific and biomedical research at Duke and other research institutions. Jose R. Conejo-Garcia, MD, PhD, professor in integrative immunobiology at Duke University School of Medicine, has been awarded the Vanguard Award from the American Association of Immunologists (AAI). This award recognizes research achievement and exemplary career success by an underrepresented investigator.

Marco L. Davila, MD, PhD, of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, will present, “Mechanisms of Toxicity and Treatment Resistance to CD19- targeted CART cells” at Duke Cancer Institutes’ Seminar Series on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 8AM.
